I have finally managed to watch "Pandora's Box" Gosh, she was amazing! On the DVD there was also an hour long documentary on Louise Brooks. She was born in 1906 and at the age of 6 she had already a bob haircut!!??? I thought bobs started to appear around 1920. Who invented the bob haircut and when? Can anyone shed some light on this, please? Thanks.

People, both men and women, of the 18th and later dynasties of ancient Egypt are commonly dipicted as having very much a Bob-like hairstyle (granted, they were often wigs).

The "Pageboy", a particular style of Bob, came from Europe in the middle ages. They were seen on, but not at all limited to, pages, who were typically male, and acted as servers to royalty. The Page was also the servent to a Knight, where Page is the lowest rung in the ladder to Knighthood. See Robert Wagner's dipiction of Prince Valient.

Also, Chinese and other Asian cultures well known for their Bobs. The shape and texture of their hair as it grows serves exceptionally well as a base for a Bob, and they have taken advantage of that fact for a very, very long time.

Although people throughout history have worn the Bob, the early twentieth century seems to be the birth of the modern "Louise Brooks style" of Bob fashion. However, I've never been very knowledgable about history and fashion per se, so if someone knows better than I do, I'd love to hear about it.

I`ve racking my brains lately, tying to find from anyone wherever, a definition of the difference between a bob haircut and a pageboy cut...-Can somebody here come up with an answer, please ?

a pageboy is a longer version of a bob, from what I have gathered a bob can be ear length to the base of your shoulders...but I am thinking even at that point it is considered a page.
