I moved to Columbus OH in 1999. In NW Indiana I was going to a GREAT stylist. He KNEW how to give a great cut. I went to him for 8 years and got so many free cuts because the older ladies loved my cuts. My hair is straight, silver and has many cowlicks at the nape, therefore it must be kept ultra short (shaved/shorn) or I get this "lip" of hair at the base that sticks straight out. My mother never turned me over when I was a baby, so my head is a bit flat too. Only a stacked look back there eliminates the flat head. Since in Columbus I have been to 19 different people and they all ask ME what I want done! I never had to tell Dennis anything and every cut was a bit different. NO ONE has been able to give me a great cut here. My hair grows super fast & tends to get very thick in the back. I have had bobs before where the back was super short with bangs & no bangs. Please someone help me! Cost is no object and I am willing to travel at least 50 miles for a good cut & one that will last a month. Thank you!!!

Hello
I live in Columbus too and i have a hard time finding someone who knows how to cut a great bob. I knew a lady who really gave me a good cut but she moved away. I usually wear my bob at just below my chin line with bangs. I am growing it back out so I need to be patient. If you find a good stylist, let me know and I will do the same. Maybe we can meet and compare bobs.

For everyone: to get a correct cut, when you go to Supercuts, or Hair Cuttery, or any hair salon, take along the pictures of Natalie Portman and Catherine Zeta-Jones. The bob cut is a blunt cut with the under layer beveled under just slightly so that your hair will curve under naturally. Your hair should be cut wet, not dry. The bottom of the back should be even with the top of a blouse collar or turtleneck when you tip your head forward. The sides should taper downward toward the front and be longer than the back, so that you will get the wave or curve you see in profile. If you want bangs instead of long front hair, ask the haircutter to pull them out so that when he/she cuts them, the cut length ends right at the bridge of your nose when your hair is wet, and the sides can be straight or taper down a bit. If you want a longer bob, take the pictures of Uma Thurman in "Pulp Fiction". ALWAYS take pictures. (Any hair style longer than that is a pageboy.) Also, if you want some extra height while your hair is drying, bend over and blow dry the under layers first. For some reason, it makes them "pouf" more.
The nice part about the bob cut is that it is extremely low maintenance. When I wash my hair, I comb it all back, even the bangs, and stick the sides behind my ears and let it air-dry. This way, it dries in a natural curve. I don't put anything on it except conditioner and a defrizzer that adds body and shine. A very small amount of Albert VO5 is as good as some of the other products on the market, although I do like Matrix Biolage Smoothing Shine Milk. I spray a small amount of that on my hands and run them through my hair. I love this cut. I have worn my hair this way since the 1960s, when I was a VERY mod teen and made all the Mary Quant designs I could get patterns for. But, no, it is not easy to find someone to do the job properly.
