Hello,

How long does it take to grow all your hair out to the same length for a mid-neck length bob? I am talking on average since I know that hair grows at different speeds on different people. I grew it out for one year and it was down to my chin at different lengths. I gave it up thinking it was me.

Jamie, the average human hair grows 1/2 inch per month. example: It took almost a year for my wife to grow a short pixie to a chin length bob.

One thing that can have a big impact on how long your hair can get is the frequency and duration of times when any given hair follicle will cycle between active and inactive. In order to regulate how long our hair grows, our individual hairs periodically stop growing for a while, then switch back on again. While a follicle is turned off, that hair will fall out, starting all over with a fresh hair. Some people have very, ver long cycles, and they end up with Crystal Gayle style super long hair. Others have cycles that are very short, or where the cycle is spent mostly in the "off" state (as in what happens with male pattern baldness).

These cycles are different for everyone, and are affected by all sorts of things, like genetics, age, gender, hormones, mental and physiological stresses, nutrient difficiencies, and exposure to toxic chemicals and radation.

Poor hair care can also take its toll in making the hair brittle or weak. Excessive hair 'care' can also pull and break the hair faster than it can be replaced (harsh brushing, chemical treatments, high temperatures from hot blow drying, etc.).

Consider that one year is about 6 inches worth of growth, if everything's in perfect working order. And even then if you start with very short hair, 6 inches won't get anywhere near chin length from the crown.

It's very possible you're seeing exactly the right amount of hair growth. It's also possible you're having some very normal 'issues', and like many of us (myself included), you may find some hairstyles difficult to accomplish. It could be you, or you could just be impatient.
